I can usually figure out how to create a project just by seeing the finished artwork, but I decided to take this course because I plan to create simplified maps like this with my elementary students and wanted to see how Lindsey explained the steps. Not only does she show you her process, but she even walks you through her decision making – she discusses why she chooses to place an element or a color in a particular place as well as other options she was considering and why she chose against them. And such a modest fee for this great resource! For anyone not familiar with digitizing artwork, this course would be worth it just for that lesson. FYI an excellent free alternative to Photoshop is GIMP.

I would recommend to anyone that would want to make a map for any occasion. I created a map of my hometown for my children, who are now adults, to show the popular places we would go to when visiting. The ice cream shop, the pizza place and a favorite restaurant to include a few. I even included their grandparent’s homes. We have a famous bridge that was the center illustration. The course is easy to follow.

I had visited Paris and so I enjoyed her vista of the city.
I learnt so much in the course, as Lindsey is a very patient and inspiring teacher. She has little tricks and helpful hints to enable you to achieve the outcome which you set yourself upon.
I chose to do my birthplace town to be able to share with family members….. however, it’s still not completed due to different schedules and events.
I’m encouraged to set myself a time frame and achieve this goal.
One of the wonderful things about Lindsey’s courses is that you can go back over them and be helped again by Lindsey as you work through each stage…… and if you have questions second or third around Lindsey is still available to help with support.
Thanks Lindsey

Lindsey is a very understandable teacher, it’s full of really good techniques, design tips and color theory. Since taking this course I have made several friendship maps. Highlighting the fun things my friends and I have shared. It really inspired me to play with the concept of maps. I recommend this class to anyone who wants a good experience with watercolors and inks right off the bat.

Wow! Then getting the ability to spring open the watercolours and bring it to life!
Lindsey guides you effortlessly through the steps. Great project looking to do more versions.

I would highly recommend the course.

The instructions are easy to follow and the results are beautiful and personal, The watercolor tips and ideas for what to include as illustrations are really helpful and inspirational. You don’t have to be a “great artist” to make a great map. I took the class several years ago and created a life story map as an anniversary gift for my husband. He was very impressed!
